This workshop examines the research that focuses on the connections between positive racial socialization and academic success for students of color. Through cooperative discussions that analyze engaging media clips and current research, participants will explore Dr. Joy DeGruy’s definition of multigenerational trauma and its impact on students of color. The session will introduce methods for using culture in the classroom as an asset to promote positive racial identity and to create an academically stimulating environment.
